Autumn Durald Arkapaw, the Academy Award-winning cinematographer of Sinners, takes her craft very seriously. She studies lens design, formats, and cameras to bring just the right look to every project. Through her career, she has become comfortable shooting with a wide variety of formats, from 16mm all the way up to 65mm IMAX in Sinners.
In this conversation with Panavision’s Senior VP of Optical Imaging, Dan Sasaki, Autumn describes the decision to shoot Sinners in a large format, but she also fields questions and takes us through what she looks for in a lens, and a bit of her exacting nature in getting the look she wants. To quote the first comment under the YouTube video, Autumn “gives the vibe of someone that 1000% knows what they’re talking about, a master of their craft, indeed.” Couldn’t agree more.
