Every once in a while, we like to check in with our neighbors to the North, and see what cinematic delights the National Film Board of Canada have to offer. (And by the way, on behalf of just about everyone in this country, we’re sorry.) Today, it’s the short Hospital, With Love. This powerful, animated short from Carine Khalifé examines one woman’s relationship with the hospital, from her time as the daughter of a surgeon, to the modern day as she seeks treatment.
Hospital, With Love combines a wistfulness for the way things were, with the hopefulness that good still exists, and might prevail. Beyond the story, which is personal to Khalifé, the animation is handcrafted using paint on glass, and charcoal techniques, which create an engaging and beautiful look.
