Previously on the podcast, we interviewed Billy Miossi, director/editor of Goldie, a short documentary about a longtime rocker who brings his talents to long-term care facilities. That film was ultimately picked up by The New Yorker, and made available online.

Miossi’s latest short doc is The Moleman, which focuses on Tom Schmidt, known as Cincinnati’s Mole Man, who has spent decades removing moles from yards in Ohio and Kentucky. Miossi’s documentary finds Schmidt reflecting back on his life as he turns 80. Equal parts quirky and emotional, The Moleman weaves a delightful tale of how Schmidt’s one-time hobby became a lifelong calling.

The film was just selected as part of the inaugural Yahoo x The Nonfiction Hotlist, a curated collection of 20 short documentaries chosen from nearly 1,000 submissions from filmmakers around the world. That’s good news for Miossi, but it’s even better news for you, because it means you can watch the film online right now for free.
