Sometimes the best stories are practically in your own backyard. Director Billy Miossi has managed to make two shorts based on unique people who happen to live really close to his Cincinnati home. In Goldie, Miossi tells the story of Tim Goldrainer, a cover band star in the Cincinnati area, who also serves a very different audience, bringing his rock n roll to area nursing homes. The short was picked up by The New Yorker as part of their online documentary series.

More recently, Miossi completed The Moleman, an intimate look at Tom Schmidt, who has devoted his life to one particular profession: the removal of moles in the Cincinnati area.

In this episode, Miossi talks about finding stories nearby, and his process for producing documentary shorts and features. And, you can watch his short Goldie below.
